25 Blue flags for Mallorca’s beaches

The Blue Flags stand for an award for water quality, environmental management, safety and service. The Blue Flag is recognized worldwide and is the most coveted award for beaches. The prestigious certification is awarded to the beaches by the Foundation “Environmental Education”. With a total of 566 certified beaches, Spain has led the way since the award was first granted in 1987. 25 beaches on Mallorca receive the so-called Blue Flag as a quality seal for the season. That is four less than last year. While the beaches of Cala Comtessa, Son Maties, Palmanova, Es Carregador, Torà and Illetes lose the Blue Flag (all in the southwest of the island in the large municipality of Calvià), Palma (Cala Mayor) and Santanyí (Cala Gran in Cala d’Or) each win an award.

This year, Santanyí is the municipality with the most excellent beaches. Tourism councillor Rafael Batle celebrated the news: “Blue flags are synonymous with quality”, he told the press.

The following beaches in Mallorca will be awarded the Blue Flag in the 2020 season:

- Palma de Mallorca: Cala Estancia, Playa de Palma and Cala Major
- Andratx: Sant Elm
- Pollença: Cala Molins, Cala Barques and Formentor
- Muro: Platja de Muro
- Santa Margalida: Can Picafort, Son Bauló and Son Serra de Marina;
- Son Servera: Cala Millor and es Ribell
- Sant Llorenç: Cala Millor (Cala Nau) and Sa Coma;
- Felanitx: Cala Marçal, Cala Ferrera, Porto Colom (Platja S’Arenal) and Cala Sa Nau
- Ses Salines: Playa de Es Dolç (Es Port);
- Santanyí: Cala Mondragó (Sa Fontde n’Alís), Cala Santanyí, Cala Llombards, la Cala Gran and s’Amarador
