A real hidden gem in Mallorca – Food market San Juan in Palma
Opened in June 2015 the San Juan Gastronomic Market is located in a building within the S’Escorxador cultural centre in Palma de Mallorca and is designed to seduce visitors and local people with new and various gastronomic experiences. As well as the market’s tempting 14 stalls, you can enjoy eating, drinking, socialising with friends, and a variety of year-round activities in this attractive space. Concept?
The concept for this new gourmet market in Palma is similar to that of famous gastronomic markets in other European cities, such as Barcelona, Madrid, and Lisbon: High level but down to earth, casual ambience and affordable prices.
San Juan food Market has a great gastronomic offer, consisting of high-quality local, national and international products – such as oysters, all kinds of seafood, Mallorcan dishes, cured ham, national cheese, ‘fideuá’, grilled meats, Basque country style ‘pintxos’, spanish omelette, fried or grilled fish, etc.
The market will now be open all day, 365 days, offering tapas, along with traditional market supplies. CEO Fernando Castellanos and the market general manager, Mar Rubí, head the group of business people behind the project. Amenities include a central square with 14 food stalls (4 more are available), cocktail bar (with a stage for shows), coffee shop/patisserie, cozy Vintage-Café in shabby-chic-style, terraces, a multipurpose space for cooking classes, private tastings, and product presentations, and a show-cooking kitchen on the upper floor.
The San Juan Gastronomic Market is just 10 minutes away from Palma’s Plaça d’Espanya, and easily accessible by bike, bus (Nr. 12 or 20), on foot, or by car. Car park and street parking available. There is also an underground car parking in Calle Emperatriz Eugenia.
