A highlight in winter – the almond blossom in Mallorca

For those who want to experience Mallorca from an extraordinary side, the island is recommended in the winter months at the beginning of the year. From end of January to around mid-March it changes into a delicately fragrant sea of flowers - it is the time of the almond blossom. Many areas of the island show the fascinating natural spectacle in delicate pink and brilliant white.

The best time to travel. At the end of January, when it is still the deepest winter in Germany, spring on Mallorca begins with beautiful, sunny days and often pleasant temperatures between 15 and 20 degrees. Just the right conditions for the buds of the famous Mallorcan almond trees, which begin to open at this time of year and turn into magnificent white and pink clouds. A natural spectacle not to be missed. When exactly the flowering begins depends on the region and the weather. You can expect the almond blossom to start later in the Tramuntana Mountains than in the plains to the south and east of the island. Harsh winters can also postpone the flowering season. The nice thing is that the almond blossom season in Mallorca lasts several weeks, from the end of January to the beginning of March. Enough possibilities for an almond blossom experience in the relaxed low season. If you want to be sure not to come too early or too late, it is best to book your holiday in mid-February. Tradition and history. Originally it was the Moors who brought the almond tree from the Orient to Mallorca in the 10th century. This tree has been part of Mallorcan agriculture for centuries. This is of course also reflected in the island’s culinary tradition: almonds can be found in many typical specialities such as the sweet Turrón or the popular almond cake Gato de Almendra. The almond liqueur Flor d’Amentella produced here also benefits from the intense and fine aroma of Mallorcan almonds.
