Hiking in Mallorca
Hiking in Mallorca is a special experience. Discover the scenic island from its most beautiful side. Especially the beautiful mountain ranges invite for hiking. Along the coast or idyllic nature reserves, there is something for every need. Walks for toddlers and dogs or a difficult climb. Untouched natural landscapes with breathtaking vantage points, historic farmhouses and gardens, gorges, etc. are just some of the beautiful hiking opportunities in Mallorca. More than 120,000 people come every year to hike on the island.
Mallorca has two mountain ranges, more than 5 peaks over 1,000 meters. You have the opportunity to explore the island on your own or to take guided mountain hikes. You can also book organized walking tours with accommodation. However, you should always make sure, if you want to hike on your own, that many mountain areas are privately owned. Over 800 years ago, the entire lands of Mallorca were privately owned. This is for example around the Sierra Tramuntana, which stretches from the northwest to the north. The highest mountain Puig Major with 1,445 meters is here and also the mountain gorge Torrent de Pareis. To the east is the Sierra de Llevant with hills and mountains over 500 meters and cliffs. The perfect hiking region is the northwest and north of Mallorca.
There are particularly beautiful hiking trails around Lluc, you can choose between challenging and easy ways. In the in-house restaurant, you can enjoy delicious Mallorcan cuisine. You can spend the night after an exhausting but also beautiful hiking day in the monastery Lluc.
Hiking in Mallorca is possible all year round thanks to the Mediterranean climate. However, the weather is very different between coast, inland and mountains. The wettest and coolest region is the northwest, the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range. The best time for hikes in Mallorca is in February until the end of May. Here the best are the flatter areas, as it is too warm in summer. Between mid-September and November, walks in the woods or on the coasts are best.
