How the Mallorca holiday 2021 works
Several German tour operators expect tourism on Mallorca and the other Balearic Islands to pick up again significantly from spring 2021. In a few weeks, vaccinations will start in Germany as well as in Spain, primarily of the risk groups, and thus travelling abroad with all the implemented safety measures, compulsory masks, hygiene requirements and social distancing will be possible again. The organisers are expecting a good peak season and are looking forward to the future. The Balearic Islands government has agreed with the central government in Madrid on a protocol to regulate the arrival of international tourists. The government is working feverishly to implement the protocol and get the travellers back to the islands. The protocol includes the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands. A spokesman for the Balearic Islands government told the MZ sister newspaper “Diario de Mallorca” that the safe travel corridors should arrive “as soon as possible and the corona incidence allows it”. It remains to be clarified what the rules will be on the return journey. Holidaymakers will probably have to take a test before flying home, for which the Balearic Islands will pay. If it is positive, the tourist must remain in quarantine on Mallorca. The Balearic government would then provide the accommodation for this. A negative test result, on the other hand, could make any quarantine on arrival in Germany unnecessary. “This is an important agreement and a big first step”, said Tourism Minister Iago Negueruela. “Now we have to work to reduce the incidence. But with the Protocol we have at least a basis for negotiation to revive tourism in the 2021 season”.
