One of our highlights in the South East – the enchanting harbor Portocolom
The charming harbor Portocolom is located at the east side of Majorca, approximately 12 km away from Felanitx. Portocolom is situated by a large protected bay and is the biggest natural harbor of the island. The port makes a strong impression by its originality with the traditional fishing boats, the so-called “Llauts”, and the charming fisherman’s cottages directly on the waterfront in the old town. If you circle the bay eastwards, you’ll get to the villa quarter Sa Punta. The lighthouse of Punta de Ses Crestes is also located here. In the immediate vicinity you will also find two small beaches which are liked very much by residents. If you go in a westerly direction you’ll get to the so-called New City of Portocolom, with many beautiful restaurants and bars directly at the harbor. At the port, with a little luck you can see the fishers when they repair their fishing nets. Some Majorcans still earn their living exclusively by fishing. A small hill takes to Cala Marcal, with a beautiful beach, clear water and further touristic facilities. In the village it is calm; only to the south of its center a holiday settlement has arisen at Cala Marcal, with hotels, bars and restaurants. Whoever would like to escape the bustle can enjoy a holiday with Mediterranean atmosphere. For a good and relaxed lunch or dinner or just a drink, we know a place to recommend you. The HPC Restaurant Portocolom for example is a casual place with Mediterranean cuisine and view onto the port. The unconventional, modern interior space was designed by the well-known designer Miguel Sagrera. There is also a large covered terrace that is available to customers. Furthermore the Restaurant Sa Lotja is another highlight in Portocolom. From the restaurant terrace which is situated on the first floor you have a gorgeous view onto the old town and the port of Portocolom. The interior is flooded with light, it is modern and decorated with much wood. On the large terrace you can relax and enjoy good sea air and the nice surroundings. Also one of the best and most expensive restaurants of the island is located in Portocolom - Restaurant Colón. Modern art, a wonderful sculpture of a bull, natural stone walls, dark ceilings, candle light and the cozy lounge with open fireplace ensure this site stands out and provides a great atmosphere. From the tables on the shady terrace at the front side you’ll have view onto the street and the port. The Austrian chef and owner Dieter Sögner initially worked at the renowned “Tantris” in Munich (two Michelin stars) and at the Hotel Adlon in Berlin. And for those who wish to see Portocolom from above, we recommend the terrace at the Golf club Vall d’Or. The Club houses the Restaurant Máxime, with its spacious terrace and the panoramic view onto the square and the coast of Portocolom. It is open the whole day, 365 days a year, for non-golfers as well.
