The Highlight in January in Palma – San Sebastian
Anyone who thinks that nothing is going on in Mallorca in winter is completeley wrong. Many events are held every month but one of the most visited, is without doubt the San Sebastian Festival in the island’s capital. With a concert night and a BBQ evening, Palmas citizens celebrate traditionally on January 19, the eve of Sant Sebastian, the special day of the patron saint of the city of Palma. Music groups of all styles play on various places in the center, such as on the Placa Major, the Placa Cort, on Placa de la Reina below the cathedral or at the Placa Joan Carlos directly at the popular café Bar Bosch. The San Sebastian Festival is considered to be one of the highlights during the winter months on the island. On the same evening of 19 January, many grill stations are installed outdoors, where people grill their meat or sausages and eat all together in the middle of the streets. On January 20, then takes place the so-called “Correfoc” (fire-run of the Dimonis/devils) and the final fireworks in front of the cathedral. At present, dreamlike temparatures with a lot of sunshine are definitely a reason to visit the beautiful island of Mallorca in winter time. For more information about this festival and precise details please have a look in a few days in Mallorca Zeitung or Mallorca magazine or any other event information online.
